Candle Safety and Care
Never leave a burning candle unattended, within the reach of children or pets, or near flammable items.
When burning our candles in your home, there are important safety instructions which must be followed.
Candles are a naked flame and must be treated with caution and respect.
Safety Instructions are on the base of your jar. If you are ever unsure, please contact us prior to burning.
Always burn your candle on a stable and heat resistant surface, away from draughts and items which can catch fire.
Space multiple candles at least 100mm apart.
Trim your candle wick prior to each burn — we suggest 5mm. The easiest way to achieve this is with a wick trimmer. A trimmed wick limits mushrooming and sooting, and keeps a steady, teardrop flame.
Do not burn your candle for more than three (3) hours. Our candle vessels are designed for three hour burns, burning beyond this time may lead to injury due to an overheated vessel or large flame. If you would like to burn your candle for longer than three hours, we suggest purchasing two. Cycling your candles allows for our recommended two hour breather between burns (and a wick trim when cool.)
To enjoy maximum ambience, allow the wax to melt across the entire surface. This will reduce the unsightly chance of tunnelling and maximises your candle's burn time. The first burn sets the precedence — just like a first date!
To extinguish your flame, blow it out gently or use a snuffer. DO NOT use liquid or the lid to extinguish your candle.
If your jar has blackened, clean with dry paper towel prior to burning.
In the unlikely event your wick has moved from the centre, after extinguishing, gently guide the wick back into position with your trimmer.
Cease burning your candle when there is 1.5cm of wax remaining. The wick is attached to a metal tab on the bottom of your candle and if it overheats the vessel may break. Unused wax can be repurposed as a wax melt; carefully scoop out the remaining wax and place into a wax warmer.
Retired jars can be washed in hot soapy water and repurposed with their unique hand-burnt lids. They make amazing button holders, paint brush jars, vases, bead organisers, cotton bud holders... check out our socials for more ideas!
